The Indian High Commission last night announced that an All-Party Parliamentary Delegation from India, led by Dr. Shashi Tharoor will be visiting Guyana from today until Tuesday to convey India’s strong message of zero-tolerance for terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
A release from the High Commission said that the Delegation will be interacting with the Guyanese leadership and key interlocutors from media, Indian community and diaspora, and friends of India in Guyana, underlining the strong message of unity and brotherhood as well as India’s collective resolve to fight against the scourge of terrorism. The Delegation will also join the 59th Independence Day celebrations hosted by Government of Guyana in Berbice today.
The delegation arrived in New York yesterday afternoon and visited the 9-11 memorial. Tharoor later spoke about the visit to the memorial and about the objective of the visit to Guyana and other countries.
The Delegation includes the following members:
1. Dr. Shashi Tharoor (Head of Delegation), Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha;
2. Dr. Sarfraz Ahmad, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha;
3. Harish Madhur Ganti, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha;
4. Shashank Mani Tripathi, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha;
5. Bhubaneswar Kalita, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha;
6. Milind Murli Deora, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha;
7. Tejasvi Suryanaryana Lakya, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha;
8. Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu, former Ambassador of India to the USA and former High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka
Ahead of his visit, Tharoor stated that the delegation is going with the motive of telling the world how India has been suffering from terrorism for many years and also delivering the message to the world that it will not be silenced by terrorism anymore, according to ABP Live News.
The Tharoor-led delegation will visit five countries: the United States, Panama, Guyana, Brazil, and Colombia.
“We are going there to tell people about our experience, why we did what we did and what would be India’s attitude going forward in the future. We will meet people and share what we have been suffering from past so many years”, he said, according to the ABP Live News report.
Tharoor went on to slam Pakistan for orchestrating terror attacks, saying, “Since its inception, since its birth, Pakistan has orchestrated a series of terror attacks against India starting with the war of 1947. The most recent Pahalgam attack is a reminder of Pakistan’s dastardly and barbaric terror activities that they have unleashed against India. Pakistan has also given safe haven to multiple terror organisations and leaders of these terrorist groups, including Osama bin Laden. It is beyond reasonable doubt to the whole world that Pakistan today is a terror exporting state, and the world needs to take note of this.”
“It is to communicate this all important message against Pakistani terror attacks and also communicate to the world India’s message of hope and peace, and India’s message of democracy and strength,” he concluded.
In another video shared by Tharoor a few hours before embarking at the Delhi Airport, he said: “We need to speak up for our country, for our response, and to give the world the message that we will not be silenced by terrorism.”
“We don’t want the world to look away either. We don’t want indifference to triumph over the truth. It’s a mission of peace, a mission of hope,” he added.
