Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill last evening said that his South Ruimveldt home was fired upon by unknown assailants and that the police are investigating.

“My wife was in the yard. A vehicle came through shooting…more than 15 spent shells were picked up,” Edghill told the Sunday Stabroek last evening from his home.

He said that his security was on shift but he did not at the time have additional information.

Efforts to contact the police last night were futile as calls and messages went unanswered.

Edghill’s  wife, Joan, was not physically injured, the Minister said.

The Minister said that his son John was at the police station “because we have some information which suggests that the shooter spoke to a female who was identified, before the shooting took place “.

He added: “A female no way connected to any of the Edghills, to be specific, no way connected to the Edghills. The vehicle came into the street, a female went into the car, came back out of the car. The car came here shooting”.

When Stabroek News visited the area, neighbours were tight-lipped.

One resident said that “a set of police  came so is best to ask them”.

A property on D’Urban Street,  Lodge belonging to Edghill was set on fire earlier this month.

Initial reports suggested an electrical fault; however, further investigation revealed that the cause of the fire points to arson, a release from the Ministry of Home Affairs said. Footage shows a hooded individual entering the premises at approximately 04:48 hrs, shortly before the fire was reported.

The affected structure is a two-storey wooden and concrete building used as a church hall, owned by Edghill. The building and its contents suffered extensive damage.
