Daughter, son-in-law charged with murdering Non Pareil woman

The daughter and son-in-law of the forty-six-year-old woman whose body was found days after she went missing from her home, were yesterday charged with her murder and remanded to prison by Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.

A statement from the police said that Austin Ramchand, a 24-year-old auto electrician of Lot 304 Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara and Saffia Mohamed, a 23-year-old housewife of the same address were arrested on 16th June 2025 and were charged yesterday with murder.

They will reappear in court on August 4th.

Mohammed’s body was discovered on June 19th at Eccles New Road after she was reported missing from her Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara home on June 12th .According to an earlier police report, Mohammed, also called ‘Baby’ was murdered on June 10 at her home at Lot 368, Section ‘D’ Non Pareil, East Coast Demerara. Her husband, Rasheed Mohammed also called ‘Robin’; her daughter and son-in-law were taken into custody.

On June 15, Mohammed’s sister, Ishika Persaud Mukhram wrote on her Facebook page that she was urgently appealing for the public’s assistance and immediate action from the authorities regarding the disappearance of her sister.

The sister revealed in her post that on Monday night, June 9th, there was an argument involving Jenny’s daughter, Sasha, and her son-in-law, who had recently moved into Jenny’s home. Following this argument, the sister said that they were asked by Jenny to leave the residence.

On Friday, June 13, Mukhram said she formally provided a detailed statement to a police officer from the Blairmont Police Station, sharing all relevant information, including her last contact with Jenny and related events.

“The investigation, which began as a missing person report on June 12, tragically evolved into a full-scale murder case. Mohammed was confirmed to have been murdered at her residence on June 10, by her daughter and her daughter’s common-law husband. All three suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, and a file is being put together for legal advice to be sought”, the police had said.
