Police say thwarted planned robbery at NA Chinese supermarket

The Police today said that they conducted an intelligence-led operation yesterday in which they successfully thwarted a planned robbery at a Chinese supermarket in New Amsterdam, Berbice.

At about 14:00 hrs on 2025/06/27, two motor cars travelling from Georgetown were intercepted by a Senior Police Officer and other ranks at the Berbice River Bridge access road.

Four males who are from Georgetown, between the ages of 18 – 29 years old, are in custody and are assisting the Police with the finding of a .38 revolver that was in a compartment beneath the steering wheel, along with five matching rounds of ammunition.

Investigations are continuing.
